When
God Interrupts
Sometimes life
will be zipping along, and then suddenly come to a screeching halt. As
mothers, we like to keep things as normal as possible for our children,
so we press on with "normal" activities, such as school and
meetings, during this time.
One evening, as
I was focused on leading my local homeschooling group (one of our ladies
is active in Karate and she broke a board for us that night), I received
a call from my doctor's office. I had an ultrasound 10 days prior and
they were letting me know my results. Being in the middle of a meeting,
I just jotted down the info and pressed it to the back of my mind.
Two hours later,
after everyone had gone home and the children were in bed, I was on the
phone with my husband (he was out of town at the time). I was feeling
very vulnerable and aprehensive; I had not gotten much info from the doctor's
office, and my mind started swirling with possibilities. I couldn't get
to sleep that night. I was up until 2am, processing the info as I talked
to God.
The next morning
I had school as usual with the children. Our Weaver Bible lesson for that
day was Philippians 4:6-7.
"Be
careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with
thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of
God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds
through Christ Jesus."
As I read it,
I knew God was speaking to me.
That afternoon
I went to church, as usual, to my "job" (I volunteer for 2 hrs,
twice a week) as assistant to our Senior Adult Pastor. After going over
business, we chatted a little about our lives. I told him what I knew
of my medical situation. He then prayed for me, and--you
guessed it--he incorporated Philippians 4:6-7 into his prayer. Afterward
I shared with him how that had been our Bible lesson that morning, and
how his prayer had just affirmed that God was comforting me.
I will be okay.
I have had a conglomerate of medical issues over time that seemed large
at the onset, but turned out to be minor. Each issue has given me insight
into the feelings of others, allowing me to be more empathetic toward
someone who has entered my life at a later day and who needed comfort
from someone who understands their fears.
I will be okay,
because God is at my side (along with my husband and children, and many
friends). His peace will keep me, just as He promises. And that's a promise
that will be kept!
